Is it just me, or has the world gone mad?

what's with the rash of kidnapping children from their homes? For once - usually i don't like to do this - i am more than happy to lay the blame squarely on the media. somehow i can't imagine that kidnappers, at their annual meeting, said "hey! here's a new twist on the abduction front! let's take the kids...from their houses... no, these idiots got the idea from watching the never-ending coverage on the news. what do we do, when the one place we should feel perfectly safe, our home, is no longer our haven? now, my windows are always shut tight, my doors are always locked and deadbolted and then some (we had to do it when the toddler started letting himself out of the house whenever he wanted), but is it enough? do i need one of those home security systems now? it shouldn't have to be that way. i shouldn't have to be afraid that someone may creep into my home late at night and instead of stealing my dvd player, takes away my only child. i know, it's not a perfect world we're living in...but for god's sake. i'm reminded of a commercial i saw, an ad for a new tv show, as a matter of fact. "there's the truth...and then, there's the news." truer words were never spoken.
